No Mother-in-law, Please! - Chapter 21 - An Excerpt

Yet she answered every question with a slight smile to appear as if she was also pleased with the match. “Ritesh loves traveling and watching movies,” she answered her brother.

“He is a manager in an M.N.C in Canada. He’ll soon be promoted to the Divisional Head’s post,” she informed her father.

“Aunty is a dashing and fun-loving person who has her own boutique named ‘Sejal’s creations’”, was her response to her mother’s concerned query regarding her future mother-in-law.

“Have you all forgotten that I had gone to meet Sharon and her family?” she blurted out at last, peeved with her family’s obsession with her future life-partner.

“Oh yes!” exclaimed Yogesh. “Hope she is fine and so is her family!”

“Did you give her the sweets that I had made especially for her?” her Mummy asked her.

“Yes. She is in the family way now.”

“Soon you will follow her!” her Daddy remarked cheekily.

Yogita couldn’t stop the beet-root red blush from creeping up her fair cheeks. She lowered her gaze and bit her lower lip.

No Mother-in-law, Please! - Chapter 19 - An Excerpt

Yogita wore the blue and violet sari with a matching blouse borrowed from Sharon. Then she exchanged rings with Ritesh. Both the rings had been purchased by Ritesh. “Fast guy”, thought Yogita. The ring, a simple golden band with tiny flowers set with rubies, was elegant. His was a golden band with a single ruby.

Yogita praised his choice. “Your choice is superb, Ritesh. How did you guess my ring-size so perfectly?”

“Remember that day at the beach when I saved you, I had prevented your ring from slipping off your finger! I could gauge its size then. That ring was a tad loose! So I had to just buy a smaller one for a perfect fit.”

“And the rubies? Of course, by my birth date, isn’t it? And you are an Arian too! I must say that you are one hell of an intelligent guy!” Yogita enthused.

Everyone clapped hands at his astuteness, even as Ritesh wondered how to gauge his fiancée’s true feelings for him!

Hetal clicked snaps on her mobile. After everyone had congratulated the handsome couple, they enjoyed the coffee and snacks.

When Ravi got the snap on his mobile, he felt genuinely happy for Yogita and Ritesh. They looked like a made-for-each-other couple. A match made in heaven!

No Mother-in-law, Please! - Chapter 17 - An Excerpt

“Mom wants me to get married ASAP. I can’t wait for a year. I would love to give you time, but I am sorry. You must make a decision now.” He said it firmly and in a steely voice, sensing that Yogita was appearing vacuous.

He didn’t want to rush her, but wanted her to be certain and firm about her decision. He wanted a clear-cut “Yes” or “No”. He had only a few days of leave left and he really wanted to marry Yogita. In fact, he was concerned about her vacillating attitude. What if she refused after a year?

Yogita resented his haste and high-handedness. If this was a precursor of things to come, she was very wary. She didn’t want to marry in haste and regret it for her entire life! She had to be sure about her feelings for him and be comfortable with his mother. For that she needed time.

“As for being a Mama’s boy, Ravi is also one!” Ritesh joked. He wanted to lighten up the conversation but ended up antagonizing her.

Sharply she reacted, “What has Ravi got to do with this?”

“Oh come on, Yogita, I just….” He protested, stung by the sharpness in her tone.

“Let’s not waste any more time Ritesh. I am hungry. You were supposed to treat me to lunch, remember?” she tried to make amends for her brusqueness. She got up swiftly.

As she swayed slightly, trying to find her feet on the uneven ground, he steadied her by placing his palm against the small of her back. A frisson of excitement raced up her spine. There was some hope….

At the restaurant, she willed herself to relax by closing her eyes and drawing in deep breaths. Ritesh observed her closely. What a beauty! Though a confused one! He quietly chuckled. Those pink, flawless cheeks and lips were his. As were the dark, svelte hair and lissome figure! She was made for him. Only for him.

No Mother-in-law, Please! - Chapter 15 - An Excerpt

As she got up to go to the kitchen, she sank down on to the soft mattress again. She was sure that mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were engaged in a deep conversation about her, right then. She didn’t want to eavesdrop on them, knowing that she would be the topic of their heart-to-heart talk!

She felt restless. She desperately wanted to talk to someone. Pour out her feelings. Misgivings. Previously, Sharon was her 3 a.m. friend. Now she was all alone.

After what seemed like an eternity, she slept like a baby.

The next day at sharp 10, Ritesh picked her up and headed out to the beach. It was warm and humid hence Yogita had worn black and white striped, cotton, knee-length palazzos and a peach colored top with a straw hat borrowed on an impulse, from Sharon. She wore her hair in a loose ponytail. No make-up. No accessories. She had only a small sling-bag containing her mobile, wallet and handkerchief. She wore comfortable slip-ins so that she could just slip them off whenever she felt like entering the water.

Ritesh had worn cotton chinos of a tan shade with a mustard- colored T-shirt and had a peaked cap rakishly placed on his thick mane. Open sandals completed the picture. He looked relaxed and carefree. None of the turmoil of the previous day showed on his handsome face.

Both wore trendy glares. She, a Seafarer and he, a Rayban! As they started walking towards the frothy waves, people stopped right on their tracks, stricken by their gorgeous looks. What a pair? They looked like a match made in heaven!

Only one thing seemed out of place. The man and the lady walked slightly apart, not hand in hand as they showed in the ads and movies. Were they there for a shooting? If so, they’d certainly wait for a dekko
