No Mother-in-law, Please! - Chapter 2 - An Excerpt

                                                                           Excerpt

                           Chapter 2 - Yogita’s aunt suffers…

Sharon had broached the topic when she was alone with Yogita in her room, after a sumptuous lunch. Sharon was visiting them as it was Yogita’s parents’ marriage anniversary. Both friends were lounging in comfortable gowns on Yogita’s bed.

Yogita now looked gravely at her best friend. She knew that Sharon would never let her down. She bit her lips slightly, looking troubled. She had tears in her eyes. Sharon felt uneasy. Had she touched a raw nerve of her friend, unwittingly? She felt unsure and wretched now.

Hastily, she said, “It’s O.K. if you don’t feel like it, Yogi. Some other time maybe, whenever you are ready for it!”

Yogita clasped Sharon’s palm and squeezed it slightly. “You are a dear, Sharon. Don’t worry. I’m just fine. Maybe I should really get this off my back! It’s high time!”

As her friend gaped at her, with her front buck-tooth protruding from her mouth and her spectacles sliding down towards the tip of her nose, Yogi said softly, “My father’s sister, that is my paternal aunt, Jyoti, was the apple of every one’s eyes in their family. She was smart, fun-loving and talented."
