No mother-in-law, please! - Chapter 18 (Excerpt)

Of their own accord, her hands reached out for her mobile. Dialled Ravi’s number. Then she waited breathlessly for his voice.

         “Hello?”

Heartbeats racing like Lewis Hamilton’s racing car, gasping like a gold-fish thrown out of water, she managed to croak, “Hello”.

The pulse at her throat beat a staccato as she waited for him to say something. Anything.

A soft click and the receiver went dead. He had disconnected the call. She had waited too long for him to speak!

Again she called. And yet again. Unable to utter a single word. Paralysed with emotion. Longing. Yearning.

Why couldn’t he just understand? Why wait for her to spell it out? She loved him. Simple. Period.

She sat down to gather her thoughts, ponder over her feelings and gauge Ravi’s intention. If Ravi knew that she was calling, why couldn’t he call her back? Was he avoiding her or waiting for her to make the first move? Was he scared to rock the boat? Sharon was pregnant with his baby. What would be her future if he decided to be with Yogita?
